Crowds getting started at the Portland Bike Summer kick off ride

Earlier in June I attended my first Portland Bike Summer kick off ride. Bike Summer is from June through August and there were thousands of people here for the first ride of 2024!

I was told the crowd this year was larger than last year.

It was fun, it was free, the vibe was great and the people were great. It’s like a giant moving street party.

The ride started at the North Parks Block between NW 8th and NW Park in the Pearl District. We went over the Broadway bridge and eventually made our way down to Laurelhurst Park. The party continued in Laurelhurst Park for several hours. I left closer to 9pm and the party was still going strong. See a few of the photos below.

Bike Summer in Portland has rides and events every night throughout summer. See here for the event schedules. Some are family friendly while others are 21+. While others are clothing optional!

Bike Summer is one of those things that makes Portland unique and it’s been around for a very long time.

Take a look at some of the photos below. I plan on doing this again next year and if you’ve never done this, I would highly suggest you give it a try!
